Body Language and the Voice - Screening out “Fake Psychics”

There are so many ways to get a reading today.

Texting, webcam, chatting online, visiting a psychic in their office, or calling a phone psychic line.
Each one presents a unique challenge for a psychic. But one in particular is shouted from every rooftop as being the one sure way a psychic can scam you: a face to face reading.

Cold reading is what this is often referred to. Most “investigators” who “out” fake psychics go with cold reading: that the psychic’s cold reading of your body language is what makes the reading so easy for a con artist to pull off. There’s a quick and effective way to foil this, and that’s simply giving the psychic in question nothing to work with.

No reactions at all.

I fully realise this is easier said than done. But the less you react to or give a psychic to work with, the more you benefit yourself. This includes readings on webcam where you are both visible to the other, by the way. The less you react, the less the psychic has to work with, thus the more you can be certain you’re not in the midst of a “fake” reading.

Phone readings are a little trickier for fake psychics, which is better for the consumer. So far, few fake psychic hunters seem to realise that voices are not nearly as unique as one might think. I don’t think I’m giving away any trade secrets when I tell you that I’ve found that voices do have similar qualities. Just by the sound of your voice, I can tell quite a few things about you. This is something you can’t help, I know.

How can one escape this? One can’t.

What you can do is very simple, however: ask a question, then reply with only yes or no. This will prevent you from giving any valuable ‘leads’ to a psychic and make him or her do what she or he claims they can do: read you with little to no information at their disposal to go on.

Having said this, it would be remiss of me not to mention that each psychic might want different information from you at the beginning of your reading that is perfectly acceptable.

For instance, it’s quite common to give your first name and date of birth in an initial reading. To critics who say that’s “cheating” because you are using numerology (from the name given) and astrology (from your date of birth) I can’t help but disagree with vociferously.

Giving your first name alone means nothing without your last name for a life path or destiny report, which quite frankly, is so complicated we’d need a computer programme to calculate it. The computer would need to be trotted out again for any sort of detailed astrology report, and I’m firmly convinced you’d realise your reader was, well, reading if they had the milliseconds in which to do such a thing in a phone reading!

As previously mentioned, some psychics don’t need a name or date of birth. They only need a question to get started. I don’t see that as “cheating” either unless you give too much information, at which point most readers will be inclined to mention you’re doing exactly that.

There is only one thing one to remember to get the best possible psychic reading: less  is always more.
